This
episode, barring the chopped-up body, the testical removals and the
perfect replica clutches and carry-alls, is all about relationships.
First up: The relationship between Hiatt and Vick Mackey.
I
have found the culmination of this relationship to be one of the best
I've ever seen, not because it's been "so perfect" but because in
what is only 5 episodes, each of them has come to understand the
purpose of the other, and in Hiatts case, the fact that Vic truly
does belong in the Barn and on the force. This is evidence when
at the end of this episode, he provides the entire layout of the plan
for Claudette to only placate Vic and give him the sense that all
hope is not lost, when in reality, hope left the building at the
start of this season.
The
second relationship to note here is the new, but undeniable
relationship between Shane and Diro, the now new Queen of the
Armenian mob. They both have a strange and (as I call it in my
overcasts) wonky relationship that's been initiated and I cannot wait
to see what happens with it. Clearly, she has taken Shane in as
what is a shining "he has my best interests at heart" relationship
sample - but you HAVE to know - Shane doesn't consider it that at
all. With the money Shane is/will be making I wonder if the
window on that year-and-half-budget is shortening as we speak?
Another relationship that I covet in this series, in particular in
this episode, is the Ronnie-Vic relationship, because folks:
They are all that's really "left" of the original Strike Team.
Shane has taken a dive off the gooney-crap-o-meter in the last season
and a half and while I'd like to think it's all going to work out - I
don't think that's the case at all.
I've
also come to like the Dutch-Billings team-up. Each time we
visit with them, it's a complete conversation that is right out of a
buddy-cop movie that gives you what you need for their relationship
to progress. Some of the one-liners in this and the previous
episode are the stuff of television legend, trumped only by Shane and
another of the many whores showcased on The Shield.
So
where do YOU think these relationships are going to take us?
Have we seen the initiation and continued peace between current and
former Strike Team Members (doubt it)? Will Claudette
eventually have her day Vic-less? Will she suddenly discover
that she really DOES need Vic and help him thwart the career
guillotine? We'll find out in a short week. And now it's
time
to hear from YOU -- The Listeners!
